Before I have time to process what’s going on, I find myself pushing the panic button installed on my computer and alerting the authorities that there has been an information leak at my station. Immediately, two members of the Elite Council appear in my room. After explaining the situation to them, I watch as they handcuff my mother and whisk her away in their patrol car. While I never saw my father again, I assume that he met the same fate. They both sit in the county jail just twenty minutes from our house, where they’ll spend the rest of their lives for their crimes, but I refuse to visit them. Some people might think my decision was coldhearted, but I feel an allegiance to protect our nation from deviants like them. I’m an Elite, and that’s all I need.
