“Stop crying,” I bark as I rush over to the computer. I instruct her to leave the room as I finish deleting the footage. My heart pounds as I realize what I’ve just done. If the Elite Council finds out, I could be stripped of my Elite status and all three of us could end up in jail. What would my siblings do without us? I don’t have to wait long to find out, because the next morning, my parents and I are escorted out of the house in handcuffs by members of the Elite Council. They noticed suspicious behavior on my computer and recovered the deleted footage to see I was protecting my father. After pleading guilty to our crimes, all three of us are sentenced to life in prison. It is there in my cell that I wonder if being Elite was really worth it.
